Abstract

O presente artigo tem como objetivo abordar as relações de gênero em Atenas no período clássico (sécs. V-IV a. C.), a fim de examinar a condição feminina nesta sociedade, sendo a primeira etapa de uma pesquisa mais ampla, sobre o erro trágico (hamartia) feminino e o protagonismo/heroísmo feminino na tragédia grega. Para tanto, foram analisadas fontes primárias textuais, contrastando as representações da mulher no trabalho de poetas, historiadores, filósofos e oradores e a realidade social feminina na Atenas clássica. Desse modo, são examinados os diversos estatutos para as mulheres nessa sociedade, quais sejam, cidadãs (mélissai), concubinas (pallakai), metecas, cortesãs (hetairai), prostitutas (pornai) e escravas.
