A relação entre o turno de trabalho do pai e o autoconceito do filho

O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a qualidade do relacionamento pais-filhos bem como o autoconceito de filhos cujos pais trabalhavam no turno diurno com aqueles cujos pais trabalhavam no turno noturno. Participaram deste estudo 58 pais e seus filhos, da 5ª ou 6ª séries. Os pais preencheram o questionário “Avaliação das condições de trabalho e do envolvimento do pai com seu filho – Versão paterna”, e os filhos foram avaliados usando o “Self-Description Questionnaire 1”. Observou-se que os pais do turno noturno apresentaram menor qualidade de relacionamento com o filho, quando comparados com os pais do turno diurno. Tal aspecto estava correlacionado com o menor autoconceito acadêmico apresentado pelos filhos destes trabalhadores noturnos. Estes resultados demonstram a importância do pai na formação do autoconceito dos filhos e apontam para a necessidade de realizar intervenções educativas, dirigidas aos homens, para conhecerem as muitas ações que podem melhorar seu desempenho enquanto pais.

ABSTRACT

The relationship between fathers’ workshift and their children’s self-concept
The aim of this paper was to compare the quality of the father-child relationship and the positivity of the child’s self-concept among children whose fathers worked the night shift and children whose fathers worked the day shift. A total of 58 fathers and their children (fifth and sixth grade students) participated in this study. The fathers completed a questionnaire, “Evaluation of work conditions and of parent-child involvement – Father’s version”, and their children were evaluated using the “Self-Description Questionnaire 1”. The results showed that the quality of the father-child relationship was poorer among fathers who worked the night shift, and that the lower quality of this relationship was correlated with a lower academic self-concept among the children. These results indicate the importance of the fathers’ involvement, to maximize their children’s selfconcept, and the need to educate men with respect to the ways in which they can improve their parental performance.
