Abstract

The research is an introduction to Hegel’s Logic of Measure. The aim is to provide an overview of the third section of the Logic of Being: Logic of Measure. Why is the underlying unity of being called absolute indifference, and how does it differ from the indifference of a pure being? In other words, absolute indifference is the inverse quantitative relation of the factors of two qualitative determinations. So how is this contradiction dissolved, and, at the same time, does it make it possible to move on to essence? To explain this problem, we first reconstruct the logical development of the measure category in the third section of the Logic of Being; we describe the contradiction of the absolute indifferenceof two qualities as an inverse quantitative relation between their factors. Then, we present the category of measure according to the Encyclopedia. There is a double transition in the Logic of Being from the logic of measure: from quantity to quality and from quality to quantity. The transition from measure to measureless and measureless to absolute indifference explains the supersession of all the qualitative and quantitative determinants of being.
