In Whose name? The controversy about healing in Matthew 12,22-32

The present article it’s an exegetical analysis of Matthew 12,22-32, whose theme is the controversy about the power of Jesus for healing, in that he would have done healings by the Beelzebub’s power and not from God. The aim of this study is to analyze the controversy between the community of Matthew and their accusers, about the authority of Jesus and the Church for healing and casting out demons from people. In addition, we will investigate the sense that this demonic possession had for the community and how we can interpret them today. To this we will use many exegetical tools, some from Historical-Critical Method, just under a social-political approaching. In the end of this article, we will see that this text had an important role in the communities, for bring them together in the belief that Jesus is Christ of God, whose healings and exorcisms had a therapeutic role, that yet today is important, by the Social-Political context of oppression under which the poor lived in the Roman Empire.

Postcolonial and Decolonial Approach on Paul The Letter to the Romans

The text discusses the post and decolonial approach in its history and context, purposes and relationships. It aims to investigate the phenomenon developed in Latin America, its relations with the European and North American alternative thinking, its implications in Christianity, in Theology and in the research on Paul. In this guidance. The Letter to the Romans is analyzed. The most significant bibliography is revised and a proper analysis is proposed. It is concluded that the analysis is pertinent, possible and necessary. Paul makes a diagnosis of the Empire and the Imperial House and launches the proposal of an alternative society based on the eschatological justice of God, which does not imply in revolt, but resistance in solidarity and mutual love. This proposal falls upon individuals, communities and reaches the cosmos itself. It is concluded, finally, that the post and decolonial approach is highly significant, with strong inspiration to biblical scholars committed with a critical hermeneutics and to those who believe in the transformation of the system of modernity/coloniality, which still affects us, causing confusion and intense suffering to large contingents of the population and to nature itself.

Psalm 150 in the Light of Semitic Rhetorical Analysis

As we all know, the psalms were a part of the life of the Jewish people, so much so that while the Prologue of the book of Ecclesiastic refers to the Scriptures from the division “the Law, the Prophets, and the other books” (Prologue Eclo 1.8.24-25), the Gospel of Luke speaks of the same Scriptures, mentioning a division from the book of the Psalms, stating that everything led to Christ: “in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets and in the Psalms” (Lk 24, 44). It is interesting to note that Christians used and valued the Psalms in their liturgies, whether as prayers or as hymns, singing praises to God in their most varied forms and melodies. In view of this, we intend to reflect on Ps 150, the conclusion of the entire Psalter and one of the most musical psalms throughout our history. The Ps 150 is marked and demarcated in its rhythm by the occurrence of the verb “to praise”, being that 12 times in the imperative form piel and one in imperfect piel. Placing this psalm in the face of Semitic Biblical Rhetoric Analysis and being able to enter into it, according to its criteria, helps us even more to perceive the richness of the same and to use it better in study, in personal and community prayer.

Despite the fact that there are texts in the OT in which the foreign figure is portrayed in a rather negative manner, in some other moments opposite opinions other than that arise aiming at the integration of that one in the YHWH community. The text of Isaiah 56:1-8 is one of these instances in which the prophet, opposing to certain exclusivist readings, in the name of God, offers alternatives to those people from other nations. This present article is to provide an analysis of the Isaiah text in its theological aspects, spotlighting in the oracle the figure of the foreigner. And next, the pericope will be confronted with the likely historical context that has generated it.

Rediscovering the Septuagint Itinerary for the study of the Greek Bible

This article presents the rediscovery of the Septuagint in contemporary research, with the considerable increase in bibliography on the subject and the emergence of new projects, a movement that had little impact on biblical research in Brazil. The goal of this paper is to indicate the most relevant recent works and tendencies in Septuagint research and to offer an evaluation, in order that the biblical scholars or students still non familiarized with the specialized literature on the Septuagint be able to follow an itinerary of research in this field, according to their own academic interests. The beginner finds here a compass for his orientation in the vast bibliography on regard, whereas to those already initiated a path for deepening their knowledge of specific subjects on the LXX is indicated. Awareness of the current state of Septuagint research and the new perspectives for future studies is essential for the Exegesis of both the Old and New Testaments; the Greek Bible can no longer be relegated to a secondary place in biblical studies.
