Abstract

The apicoectomy with apical retrograde filling is a surgical alternative either to treating persisting apical injuries or when unsuccessfully using the conventional endodontic therapy. There are, in the literature, a great number of studies about the techniques of apical resections, retrocavities and retrograde filling materials. In this study, ten single-rooted human teeth have been used and treated endodontically, apicetomized, retrocavitated and retrograde filled with cement of glass ionomer (Fuji Ortho LC). The objective of this study was to verify if the tested material fulfilled the necessary conditions to be used as retro filler. The results showed that Fuji ORTHO LC is a material with sufficient properties to promote the adequate sealing of the root conduit when used in apical retro fillings.
UNITERMS: apicoectomy; dental materials; apical microleakage.
