Aviation humor: precious cargo, dangerous goods

Starting from the assumption that humoristic texts – such as jokes and editorial cartoons – perform diverse social functions, and that, in the field of aviation, these texts may include pieces of criticism that express the dissatisfaction of aviation users, this study aims to unveil the object of such criticism through a brief survey of the themes broached, of the linguistic resources used in the production of humor, and of the semantic and contextual implications able to provoke laughter. The results of this study corroborate that jokes about passenger behavior are among the most frequent ones and that these may or may not be related to current pieces of news. Amidst the linguistic resources found to produce humor, metaphors have been proven to play a significant role.

Partindo-se do pressuposto de que o texto humorístico desempenha diversas funções sociais e que as piadas e charges do âmbito da aviação podem veicular críticas que expressam o descontentamento dos usuários da aviação, o presente estudo busca desvendar o alvo dessas críticas por meio de um breve levantamento dos temas abordados, dos recursos linguísticos utilizados na produção do humor e das implicações semânticas e contextuais que provocam o riso. Os resultados deste estudo demonstram que, entre as piadas mais frequentes, destacam-se as que abordam o tema “comportamento dos passageiros”, podendo ter paralelo com artigos jornalísticos ou não. Entre os recursos linguísticos encontrados, destacam-se as metáforas.
